Audio File Instructions – iOS (iPad & iPhone)

If you already use iTunes to sync audio files between your Mac or PC and your iPad/iPhone

We’ll transfer the audio file to iTunes on your iPhone/iPad in the same way you are used to transferring your music.

Follow these steps on your desktop computer:

  • click on the audio file link in the ‘Purchase Receipt’ email. Your purchased file will arrive in your downloads folder
  • launch iTunes
  • select ‘Library’
  • add the downloaded file to your iTunes music library by dragging the downloaded file onto iTunes
  • sync with your iPhone (if you’re not sure how to do this instructions from Apple can be found here)

If you don’t use iTunes (and don’t wish to)

If you have a PC

There are several apps available to manage and transfer audio files to iOS devices from Windows PCs (we have no experience with these so you’ll need to search)

If you have a Mac

We’ll download the file to the Mac first, then transfer it to your iPhone or iPad using AirDrop (a built-in way to transfer files between Apple devices).

  • On your Mac  click on the audio file link in the ‘Purchase Receipt’ email. Your purchased file will arrive in your downloads folder
  • If you haven’t used AirDrop before, instructions from Apple on how to get started can be found here.
    • Following those instructions, transfer the downloaded file to your iPhone/iPad
  • When you transfer a file to your iOS device using AirDrop, a popup appears entitled AirDrop. Open with .., followed by a list of apps on your device that can open audio files.
    • If you already have an audio player installed on your device, it may appear in that list. Select it and the file will open in the audio player
    • If no audio player shows up in the list,  select Files, from where you can put the file in your iCloud Drive.
      • To access the file from iCloud drive, open the Files app on your device, find the downloaded file and tap on it to play.
